Development of manufacturing collaborators
In the early 2000s, our Italian partners developed a decentralized manufacturing concept to ensure rapid delivery of gear units worldwide. Trusted partners, experienced in selling and repairing Bonfiglioli products, were chosen to become manufacturing collaborators. These close partners enjoy exclusive distribution rights and access to all spare parts and gear data.
In the C Series helical gear units, the gear shaft is in line with the motor. Different gear pairs can be used during assembly to achieve the desired speed.
Quality remains consistent and reliable because assembly partners like MOLL-MOTOR use hydraulic presses approved by Bonfiglioli. The employees involved in local production have undergone training at the Italian headquarters. Bonfiglioli also monitors the supply capabilities of local partners, setting requirements for the minimum stock of certain components. If a part runs out, partners across different countries support each other, leading to significantly shorter delivery times compared to ordering directly from the parent company. Partners are encouraged to collaborate closely and efficiently through team-building events.
In the A Series bevel-helical gear units, the gear shaft is positioned at a 90-degree angle to the motor. The bevel stage comes pre-assembled, and helical stages are assembled locally using the same parts as in the C Series.
The program “BEST”
The local, high-quality, and flexible manufacturing program carries the meaningful name “BEST”, short for “Bonfiglioli Excellence Service Team”. Under this program, various types of gear units are produced, with three types standing out in terms of volume: the C, A, and F Series. The C Series are coaxial helical gear units, the A Series are bevel-helical gear units, and the F Series are parallel-shaft gear units. These three basic types form the backbone of MOLL-MOTOR’s gear unit portfolio, and they’ve been staple products for years.
10,000 Produced Gear Units
By the summer of 2024, the MOLL-MOTOR production site in Stockerau, Lower Austria, reached an impressive milestone of 10,000 units built across these three series
In the F Series parallel-shaft gear units, the gear shaft is offset parallel to the motor and designed as a hollow through-shaft. Several gears inside are identical to those used in the C and A Series.
In addition to the 10,000 C, A, and F gear units produced, other gear series also fall under the BEST assembly program. These series are not offered by all manufacturers, which gives Bonfiglioli a unique edge in the market:
- The S Series allows for the construction of single-stage helical gear units, ideal for applications requiring higher output speeds. The motor’s speed is reduced less significantly with this single-stage setup compared to multi-stage C units.
- The W Series combines worm gear units with a helical pre-stage in the same housing, significantly increasing the range of possible output speeds compared to standalone worm gear units.
- The 300 Series planetary gear units deliver maximum power, also locally produced by BEST partners. The high torque in a compact design is made possible by the special arrangement of gears in a planetary setup. These gears require a completely separate set of components, which MOLL-MOTOR also keeps in stock.
Single-stage helical gear units from the S Series have become rare, but Bonfiglioli partner MOLL-MOTOR still produces them upon request.
Local production and generous stock keeping of parts by the mechatronic drive supplier provide customers with peace of mind. The supply chain crisis served as a harsh reality check for many industries. MOLL-MOTOR was able to retain and attract customers with Bonfiglioli products, filling gaps left by disappointed former suppliers. The number of gear units produced will continue to grow rapidly, with the 10,000 mark being a significant milestone along this journey.
